Prescription Drug Plans (Medicare Part D) in Baton Rouge, LA

Medicare coverage has several parts. Everyone with Medicare has the option for Part D, which is the primary way to obtain prescription drug coverage. If you choose to opt out of Part D coverage during your enrollment period, you can still receive coverage but there will be an enrollment penalty.

At We Make Medicare Easy, we’re ready to assist you with additional Medicare coverage or questions.

What Ways Can I Receive Prescription Drug Coverage?

To get prescription drug coverage, you need to first join a plan approved by Medicare. There are two main ways to receive prescription drug coverage:

1.       A Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)

2.       A Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C), such as a health maintenance organization (HMO) or preferred provider organization (PPO), or other Medicare health plan that offers Medicare prescription drug coverage

What’s right for you can vary depending on your individual needs. Be sure to discuss what you’re looking for with an agent.

How Can I Join a Drug Plan?

There are a few routes you could go to receive prescription drug coverage:

·       Enroll on the Medicare Plan Finder or on the plan’s website.

·       Complete a paper enrollment form.

·       Call the plan.

·       Call us at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227); TTY: 1-877-486-2048.

If you need assistance with enrollment, reach out to an agent.

When Can I Enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan?

There are specific times during which you can enroll for coverage:

·       When you first sign up during your initial enrollment period, which is three months before your turn 65 years old until three months after your 65th birthday

·       From April 1 through June 30 if you get Part B for the first time during the general enrollment period

·       During open enrollment, between October 15 and December 7 each year

·       At any time if you qualify for Extra Help (Extra Help is a Medicare program to help people with limited income and resources pay Medicare prescription drug program costs, such as premiums, deductibles and coinsurance.)

·       During special enrollment periods (SEPs), which are events such as moving or losing insurance coverage

When you should enroll is unique to your situation and should be discussed with an agent to develop a plan that works best for you.
